A Fair displaying specialty goods from all over the country and abroad opened Saturday (Jan 15) at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center.
The 10-day goods fair is for Chinese conventional shopping before the Spring Festival, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.
The fair is divided into four areas displaying export goods, specialty goods, candy, wine and tea and international-brand commodities.
Fair organizers have set up an on-site complaints center to ensure the quality and quantity of the goods sold at the fair.
Horse milk wine from Xinjiang, handmade candy from Chengdu, jujubes from Shandong and Chinese sausages from Sichuan added a festive atmosphere.
"Specialty goods from my hometown made me feel close to home," said a migrant resident identified as Huang.
Specialty goods from foreign countries such as Swiss candy, Vietnam coconut candy and coffee and chocolate from the United States also attracted a number of visitors.
An unidentified food wholesaler from Shanghai told the Daily that because the price of Chinese food had almost caught up with the cost of foreign goods, Shenzhen residents were more open to new things and were willing to buy foreign food for the Spring Festival.
"In fact, goods such as candy and coffee from Vietnam are cheaper than those made in China," said Wu, who is trading Vietnamese goods.
Wu attended last year's Spring Festival fair and found his goods sold quite well. Many people bought imported goods as presents for relatives and friends in their hometowns.
