Write: Ilhan [2011-05-20]

The "Spiderman" staircase of the Guangzhou Tower opened on January 21. It is Guangzhou's first elevated staircase project, located between the 33and 36 floors of the tower, with an elevation of 168 to 334.4 meters. It comprises 1,088 steps spiraling upwards around the tower, with an overall length of about 1,000 meters and a total span of 166.

4 meters. It takes 30 to 45 minutes to walk up all the steps. Some steps have transparent-glass flooring, allowing visitors to see the traffic and buildings on the ground level. Lounges, drinking fountains, and photography service are available on the 42, 54 and 62 floors. Visitors may take breaks during the climb and take the elevator back to the 33rd floor.

There is also an emergency exit for visitors with special needs.

According to tower attendants, visitors to climb the steps need to buy a RMB 100 ticket in addition to the admission ticket to the tower. The staircase will be closed in vehement weathers, such as thunders and rainstorms, and in emergencies.

All visitors to the staircase are required to sign a disclaimer with the tower operator. According to tower officials, such disclaimer is common in adventure amusement programs throughout the world; it's aimed at informing of the visitors of potential risks and making sure that they are physically fit for the program.
