A new cold front is expected to affect Shenzhen from today with the minimum temperature expected to plunge to 9 degrees Celsius on Saturday morning.
The cold front influence would last until Feb. 15, Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory sources said yesterday.
The weather would become cloudy this evening and the temperature would start falling gradually.
The temperature plunge will affect Spring Festival holiday travel as hundreds of thousands people are returning to Shenzhen after the holidays.
The cold front will sweep most of the country, bringing rain and snow to northern and eastern China. The temperatures are expected to drop by 4-6 degrees Celsius on average and some areas to 8-10 degrees Celsius.
Parts of Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, north and northeastern provinces will experience snow falls. The south of Shaanxi and Henan, northwestern Hubei were expected to receive heavy snow, the Central Meteorological Administration said.
Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang and the north of Fujian were affected by fog and in some areas visibility was reduced to 200 meters.
Shenzhen experienced a sunny Spring Festival in the past week. The temperature ranged between 18 and 27 degree Celsius yesterday.
The weather remains dry with relative humidity between 75 and 45 percent. The meteorological observatory reminded residents to be aware of fire risks.
