Shenzhen tourism benefited from 5.06 million visitors, an increase of 11.3 percent, and raked in 5 billion RMB (758 million USD) in revenue, an increase of 17.09 percent, during the seven-day Spring Festival holidays.

The city's tourism authority officials said Shenzhen was the fourth most popular tourist destination following Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou for Spring Festival holiday travel.

Theme parks and beaches had seen a surge of visitors because of the sunny weather. The Dameisha beach park had 218,500 visitors in four days from Feb. 2 to 5 and the OCT East theme park had 230,000 visitors in seven days, a 30-percent increase, the tourism authority said.

The theme parks, including Window of the World and Happy Valley, had 3.28 million visitors in seven days.

The city's 74 travel agencies monitored by the tourism authority processed 118,500 travelers and earned 240 million RMB.

At least 2.1 million residents participated in more than 1,000 cultural activities such as performances and exhibitions organized by the tourism authority.
