Please Click Specials: 2011, Happy New Year!
The Chinese Year of Tiger will soon pass and the Year of the Rabbit arrives Thursday (Feb. 3), the beginning of the Chinese Spring Festival. At this time, Chinese people do away with the old and set up the new. They always look back with pride and look forward with hope.
The rabbit is a mammal with a rat-like head, big ears and short tail, but good at running and jumping. There is little difference between a rabbit and a hare, which looks like a rabbit, but larger and with longer ears and longer back legs.
In English, there are many phrases related to rabbit and hare, such as "rabbit hutch" (a wooden cage for rabbits), "rabbit punch" (a quick hit on the back of the neck), "rabbit warren' (an area under the ground where wild rabbits live in burrows)", "hare-brained" (not sensible or practical) and "hare lip" (the condition of having a top lip that is divided into two parts).
