The construction of a new amusement park for children will be completed within five years. On Feb. 15th, Li Jianlan, chairwoman of Guangzhou Women's Federation indicated in a meeting that the preparatory program for the new amusement park would be launched this year. Li also said that the park was expected to be put into use within five years. According to an initial plan by the federation, the new amusement park, when completed, will boast high-quality recreational facilities and will be open to the public free of charge. The plan has been approved by the Guangzhou Municipal Government.
Li said: "It is unacceptable that Guangzhou, the third largest city in China has only a small amusement park for children. Children in Guangzhou deserve to play cheerfully in a decent amusement park." According to a field study by Guangzhou Women's Federation, barely any recreational facility in Guangzhou is open to children free of charge. Chairman Li said: "Only the fountain in Dongshan Lake Park is open without any charge. Parents have to pay to have their children play in other facilities. Children are even not allowed to play in lawns."
The Guangzhou Children Amusement Park, a project to be launched this year, is a public one. Most of the facilities in the park will be open to children for free. Preliminary planning is well advanced. However, given its large size, the location for the park has yet to be decided. What is certain, as Chairwoman Li said, is that the park will be built in an area with convenient transportation and beautiful surroundings. In this respect, experiences will be drawn from successful parks of other cities.
