Families of Guangzhou missing students arrived in quake-hit Christchurch of New Zealand

Three Guangzhou girls were announced missing in the magnitude-6.3 earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand till Feb. 24. Lai Chang and Cathy Ye's family, after more than 20 hours' flight, finally arrived in the quake zone on Feb 27.

The Chinese students are among dozens trapped in the King's Education language college, which is on the third floor of flattened Christchurch TV building. Families of six missing Chinese students had already reached the quake-hit Christchurch on Feb 27, according to the Chinese councilor to New Zealand Cheng Lei, Chinese Embassy in New Zealand had made arrangements for them.

The confirmed death toll from the Christchurch earthquake rose to 147 on Sunday (Feb. 27), while the number of missing people remains at more than 200.

Rescue workers, including a 10-member team from China joining in from Saturday, were still toiling at the CTV building though hope faded gradually as time went by.
