Free public transport will be provided for residents on the date of their Universiade tickets.

About 20,000 volunteers for the sport venues would also be eligible for the free transport during the Games, the city transport commission said.

Vehicles entering the city would be subject to police inspections from May 1.

In another development, the closing ceremony of the Games, which was due to be held at the Universiade Center in Longgang District, had also been relocated to Nanshan District, the Southern Metropolis Daily quoted Liang Daoxing, director of the executive office of the 2011 Universiade organizing committee, as saying yesterday.

The change was to reflect the government s call to hold the Universiade in an economical way, Liang said. He said the final programs for the ceremonies had been selected from 19 options, without disclosing details.

The opening ceremony was relocated from Longgang District to the Shenzhen Bay Stadium in Nanshan last December to present a modern image of Shenzhen.

In associated development, 100,000 free condoms will be provided during the Universiade.
