Prior to the opening of the 16th Asian Games last year, with six new metro lines put into operation, the transport department of Guangzhou readjusted and optimized some one hundred bus lines. As a result, the bus transport system has been better connected to the metro system, providing great convenience to Guangzhou citizens.
On Feb. 17th, a representative from Guangzhou City Management Office indicated that with respect to metro bus lines, such problems as long intervals between buses and early off-running time previously existed. In response to these problems, the transportation department of Guangzhou has taken measures to readjust and optimize the operation time of 46 metro bus lines in a timely manner.
Measures such as increasing frequency and extending service time were put into implementation in December of 2010. For instance, the interval between buses in Bus Line 978 has been shortened, while the operation time of Bus Line 479 has been extended. Up to now, 43 metro bus lines have been optimized.
The remaining three lines will be optimized prior to Feb. 20th.
In addition, two new metro bus lines, namely, Line 980 (linking Huaqiao New Town to Feixiang Park Metro Station) and Line 981 (linking Qifu Lu to Feixiang Park Metro Station) will be opened in the new town of Baiyun District. The opening of these two lines will further improve the public transport system of the district.
