Super giant ships to ensure the transportation of strategic goods such as coal and crude oil.

On February 27, a very large crude carrier named "Xinxiayang" with 308 thousand deadweight tons (DWT), built by CSSC Guangzhou Longxue shipbuilding Co., Ltd., (GLS), started its maiden voyage. Meanwhile, the 230-thousand-ton (DWT) large ore carrier "Zhonghai Jixiang" was also launched to the sea. GLS made a record in China to deliver two super giant ships in one day.

Guangzhou will rank among the top three high-end shipbuilding bases in this year and GLS has become the leading force of shipbuilding industry.

Guangzhou has been playing an increasingly important role in high-end shipbuilding industry in China, said Tan Zuojun, the general manager of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, on February 27. The development of high-end shipbuilding in Guangzhou is expected to lay a sound foundation for the high-end shipbuilding industry of China during the "twelfth five-year plan" period. "Guangzhou is leading the shipbuilding industry in China," stated Tan.

The total accomplished shipbuilding output of GLS is expected to make another leap in 2011. It will deliver 17 ships with a total DWT of 2804 thousand which will achieve and exceed its planned goal of 2120 thousand DWT in advance. It is estimated that GLS will accomplish shipbuilding output of 3500 thousand DWT at the end of the "twelfth five-year plan" period.

The super giant ships built in the GLS base will efficiently guarantee the transportation supply of national strategic goods such as coal, iron ore and crude oil.

"Xinxiayang" is the fourth super giant ship weighing 3080 thousand DWT built by GLS for China Shipping Development Co., Ltd. The mission of its maiden voyage is to carry the crude oil imported by China Petrochemical Industry from Saudi Arabia back to China. "Zhonghai Jixiang" is the fifth of the eighth large ore carriers built by GLS for China Shipping Development Co., Ltd. The mission of its first voyage is to carry back the iron ore imported from Australia.
