Haogang Shell Mound Site, located in Haogang Village of the Shenghe Community in Nancheng District, Dongguan, covers an area of above 650 square meters.
The city of Dongguan has drafted a plan to construct the National Famous Historical and Cultural City over the next 10 years and 1.3 billion yuan will be spent on the project over a period of five years, the Dongguan Daily reported last Friday (Feb.25).
As one of the first-batch Famous Historical and Cultural Cities in Guangdong Province, Dongguan is an important birthplace for Lingnan (the South of the Five Ridges region) civilization. In The Outline of the Plan for the Construction of Dongguan into National Famous Historical and Cultural City released last year, the city of Dongguan set forth the target to build Donggguan into National Famous Public Cultural Service City, National Famous Historical and Cultural City, National Famous Modern City of Culture, and Famous City of Lingnan Culture Exquisites.
According to the draft for comment on the construction of National Famous Historical and Cultural City, Dongguan will intensify the protection of cultural heritage. A complete management system will be established to protect the famous historical and cultural city. Historic buildings will be renovated and conserved and historical streets of culture will be reasonably reconstructed so that the traditional view of old Dongguan will be recovered and reinforced.
In addiction, Dongguan will also combine the protection and utilization of historical and cultural resources with the construction of a livable and humane City. A batch of urban recreational parks, memorial parks and theme parks will be built to enrich the cultural landscapes in the city.
The Dongguan Government will allocate 1.3 billion yuan on the construction of Dongguan into National Famous Historical and Cultural City over the first five years, among which 0.5 billion yuan will be spent on the protection of famous historical and cultural city while the rest 0.8 billion yuan on cultural heritage conservation.
About National Famous Historical and Cultural City
'National Famous Historical and Cultural Cities' refers to cities with abundant cultural heritages, significant historical and cultural value, and revolutionary significance. Currently there are 112 cities in China have been approved by the State Council as National Famous Historical and Cultural Cities. 6 cities in Guangdong Province including Guangzhou, Chaozhou and Meizhou have also gained this honor.
