The timetable for the much-anticipated renovation of Yangji Village has been finalized. Resident relocation and resettlement for the project will be completed by the end of June 2014, officials announced at the eighth meeting of the 14th People's Congress of Yuexiu District on March 8.
Yangji Village renovation is a priority project on Yuexiu District's "three-olds" program, which is designed to renovate a number of urban villages, specialized marketplaces, and old workshops. Local district officials have been designated to promote the renovation of 47 land plots with a combined total area of 300,000 square meters and 24 abandoned unfinished buildings.
Yuexiu District has plans to take advantage of the opportunities opened up in Guangzhou's efforts to establish itself as an international center for commerce and trade to speed up the optimization and upgrading of its specialized marketplaces and push its commerce and trade industries towards higher-quality growth.
As such, Yuexiu will intensify the renovation and upgrading of specialized marketplaces and remove a number of low-end ones which are inefficient and incur high management costs. Policy for these marketplaces will be made on a case-by-case basis, and those with good potential and of a large size will be steered towards the high end of the industry.
And efforts will also be made to consolidate regional resources to facilitate the transformation of shopping streets into business establishments, and commercial buildings into business centers.
Moreover, the cleanup campaign for the northern section of the Donghao Creek will kick off by the end of this year as well. And water-body recycling works will be carried out for the Donghao and Xinhepu Creeks and the Dongshan Lake; in addition, the drainage systems of Zhongshan Road I, Dengfeng Street and the flooding-prone streets at the Kuangquan neighborhood will be renovated; furthermore, the entire length of the Donghao Creek will be renovated. These efforts are designed to turn the Donghao Creek into a first-rate "green corridor" embodying eco-friendliness.
