Overseas students at the College of International Exchange of Shenzhen University will establish a volunteer team for the Universiade, offering translations and other services to athletes from around the world, the college said Friday.
The college plans to select 150 overseas students from about 70 countries to join the Shenzhen University volunteer team and they will mainly serve at the sports venues, Wang Qingguo, dean of the college, said at the opening ceremony of the spring semester Friday.
The college enrolled 598 overseas students from 53 countries this semester. Nearly 400 students were language students. There were 77 students mainly from South Korea, Japan, Britain and Canada who would study for bachelor s degrees at the university, while another six students from South Korea, Russia, Japan and Thailand would go to the university s postgraduate school. Most undergraduate and postgraduate students majored in Chinese Literature, the college said.
The college also plans to open regular free lectures on world cultures, inviting overseas students to address local students and residents and also arrange for overseas students to live with Chinese families.
