The end of this month will see the completion of 22 new venues for the Shenzhen Universiade, a press conference was told on March 15.
Finishing touches were being put to 13 of the 22 new venues, said Ye Qian, vice head of the city s public works bureau. Most of the 13 are in Longgang District.
The other nine new venues were constructed by either district governments or schools, according to Li Xiaodong, vice director of the venue department at the executive office of the Universiade organizing committee.
As well as the 22 new venues, there are 28 renovated venues and 10 temporary venues. The renovated venues will be ready by the end of this month while the temporary venues are to be finished by the end of May, said Li.
A variety of environmentally friendly technologies have been used in the new venues, according to the bureau.
Besides a rainwater collection system, energy-saving glasses and LED lightings have been widely used in the Universiade Center in Longgang District, which includes a stadium, a gymnasium and a natatorium.
