On March 29, Xiao Zhenning, director of the Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangzhou Municipality, stressed at the forum on Intellectual Property Protection for foreign companies, that Guangzhou was firmly committed to the intellectual property protection.
All the companies, be it the foreign company or Chinese company, would be treated equally and the effort for protection would continue to increase. The Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangzhou Municipality, would work together with other departments concerned to maintain the intellectual property rights and interests of foreign investors, and thus encouraging the foreign companies to establish R&D institutions in Guangzhou and carry out technical innovations.
American Chamber of Commerce, Japan External Trade Organization and the European Union Chamber of Commerce spoke at the forum and fully affirmed the efforts and achievements that Guangzhou had already made towards the protection of intellectual property rights. They hoped that the current level of communications and exchanges could be further strengthened, in order to jointly promote the protection of the intellectual property of foreign investors.
Harley Seyedin, president of the American Chamber of Commerce expressed the view that Guangzhou had achieved a lot in IPR protection in recent times and the soft investment environment in Guangzhou was excellent.. The Chamber of Commerce encouraged the plan of its member companies to transfer the R&D institutions and headquarters to Guangzhou. He revealed that the global R&D headquarters of Mead Johnson would open in December in Guangzhou this year. Besides, the largest testing centers of some U.S Laboratories will be set in Guangzhou and the priority choice would be Nansha.
