The Chinese members of the UCLG( United Cities and Local Governments ) held the 2011 work conference in March 24, Guangzhou. Mr. Chen Haosu, chairman of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Mr. Wan Qingliang, Mayor of Guangzhou attended the meeting and delivered speeches.
Mr. Wan Qingliang said that UCLG has become the largest platform, on which the local governments get the chance to participate in global governance. Besides, he expressed his determination to fulfill his responsibility as the co-chairman of the UCLG, making due contributions to the universal prosperity of the world cities.
In addition, 17 representatives from the member cities of UCLG in mainland China attended the meeting.
Mr. Chen Haosu said in his delivery that the work conference of the UCLG for the mainland China members was organized and regularly held, making it a great information channel for providing instruction and service. Besides, it was of great significance for Mr. Wan Qingliang, Mayor of Guangzhou to be elected as the co-chairman of the UCLG in last November, when the status of the Chinese members in UCLG was thereafter enhanced, enabling the members have more say in municipal organizational affairs.
In terms of his election as the co-chairman of the UCLG last November, Mr. Wan Qingliang extended his thanks for the great support of the CPAFFC and all the Chinese member cities of the UCLG. He contributed his election to the increasing concern and recognition from the international community to Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, which can serve as a historical opportunity for Guangzhou to interact with the world.
