In light of rising shortages of land resources, Guangzhou has taken steps to quicken the development of underground space. The New Central Axis Company issued on March 28 requests for proposals (RFQ) for the study of the feasibility of six underground land plots at the Baiyun New Town, Yuancun in Pazhou and other locations. This is set to usher in a new round of underground space development following similar projects at the Sports Center and the Flower City Square.
According to the RFQ documents, the New Central Axis Company is seeking proposals for the study of the feasibility of six underground land plots at the Cultural Central Zone of the Baiyun New Town, the Provincial Machinery Plant, the Yuancun area, the west side of the Panzhou Convention and Exhibition Complex, the Haizhu Square, the underground garage below the municipal roadway at the Provincial Textile Exhibition Center.
The feasibility studies are expected to cost RMB1.8 million. In addition to preparing feasibility study reports, the successful bidder will also be required to assist the project owner in evaluating the construction projects and obtaining government approvals.
Among the six underground space projects, the ones at the Baiyun New Town and the Haizhu Square underway, while the ones at Yuancun and Pazhou are new ones. The Pazhou project was not mentioned in the previous zoning plan for this area. The development of the underground space at the Provincial Machinery Plant will be a continuation of the development of the underground space at the New TV Tower, and will be linked to the Kecun Metro Hub. The underground garage at the Provincial Textile Exhibition Area will ease traffic congestion around the wholesale market near Sun Yat-sen University.
