Deputy secretary Fang Shouen visited U.S.

From August 26th to September 2nd, Deputy Secretary Fang Shouen of Tongji University visited Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) for the 2nd International Symposium on Naturalistic Driving Research, and gave a keynote speech. Then, Fang Shouen and the delegation visited the National Advanced Driving Simulator Center at the University of Lowa and Virginia Tech Transportation Institute.
The 2nd International Symposium on Naturalistic Driving Research attracted representatives of government agencies, universities, and enterprises from United States, Europe, Australia and Asia. Fang Shouen as the representative of China briefed traffic safety situation in China, the national road safety technology action planning and ongoing research project psychology of traffic behavior by Tongji University. After the meeting, the two sides reached a preliminary cooperation agreement in scientific research and personnel exchange.

The National Advanced Driving Simulator Center at University of Lowa has the largest driving simulator NADS-1 in the world, mainly used for traffic safety research. During the visit, Omar Ahmad, assistant director of the center, introduced the construction, development, research, organization structure and management of NADS-1.

Fang Shouen introduced Tongji University, the development of its transportation discipline, traffic safety situation in China, traffic safety research, and the ongoing 985 Project for traffic behavior and traffic safety simulation platform in Tongji University. After visiting and experiencing the driving simulator, the two sided discussed about the research cooperation and personnel exchange projects based on the two world-class driving simulators, and detailed the draft of the cooperation agreement.
