President's New Year's Greeting

President's New Year's Greeting

Thankful for the past and looking forward to the future, we bid farewell to an unforgettable 2006 and turn to welcome 2007 full of hope and promise. I am glad to extend, on behalf of Tsinghua University, New Year's greetings and best wishes to our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and those who have sponsored and supported our development.

In 2006, we achieved great results in our work and made new strides toward our goal of becoming a world-class university. Through the efforts of Tsinghua faculty and staff, the university has steadily shaped the organization of its disciplines, improved the quality of teaching, achieved enhancement in scientific research and faculty development, and increased our social impact. In the pursuit of our mission, we achieved our goals as set out in the 211 Project for China s 10th Five-Year Plan period, and we formulated our objectives for Tsinghua s future development.

Let us not forget that all our remarkable achievements last year stem from the support of our country and society. We are encouraged by the expectations our people place in us. We are gratified that many excellent students make Tsinghua the first choice for their studies. Corporate donations from home and abroad and generous individual support for Tsinghua provide a firm foundation for the ongoing development of our education platform. On behalf of Tsinghua University, I would like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to all of you.

Looking back, we can take great satisfaction in our achievements. Looking to the future, we must not forget the heavy responsibilities we carry on our shoulders. In 2007, following the Three Nine-Year Plan strategy to build Tsinghua into a globally recognized university, we will take talent cultivation as our basic task.

We will also further promote innovation in our academic disciplines, teaching, research, faculty construction, and reform of our administrative practices and procedures. In the spirit of the scientific concept of development, we will pay particular attention to further enhance our campus culture. We will endeavor to combine Tsinghua s tradition and spirit with its recent development to make our university active, rigorous, creative, stable, and harmonious.

Dear students and faculty--as we welcome a prosperous 2007, let us devote ourselves to the goal of making Tsinghua a world-class university, work hard, and contribute to the development of our Chinese nation and the world.

A happy New Year to all of you!

President's New Year's Greeting
