Recently, Shanghai Baoye Construction Corp., Ltd. (SBC-MCC) won the bid once again for the 25,000t steel structure for Floors 9-43 of the south tower and Floors 9-37 of the north tower of the Gate of the Orient in Suzhou, following its engagement to build the steel structure for Floors 1-9 of both south and north towers of the project. Up to this point, in this building project, the tallest and largest in floor area so far in China, SBC-MCC has contracted to build up to 40,000t steel structure, steadily reinforcing its leading position in the field of super high-rise buildings for civil purposes.
So far the largest in single-building area in China and the tallest in Suzhou, the project, located in the CBD of the Suzhou Industrial Park, is 278m high and 68-storied, with an overall building area of about 460,000m2; the south and north towers, which form the entire project, join at 200m above the ground to form a -shaped building. Implying a gate of openness, the Gate of the Orient is not only a symbol of openness for Suzhou, but also a gate whereby the rest of the world accesses China, understands China and has a taste of oriental charms.
Featuring internationalism, far-sightedness, temporal spirit and openness and combining such functions as platinum five-star hotel, business, shopping, office and service apartment, the project will, upon completion, become a new signature building in Suzhou and bring massive social and economic benefits.
