SOHO China - SOHO China Donated One Million Yuan to Tsunami-Struck Areas

Initiated by Beijing Red Cross Society, SOHO China and Modern Media jointly raised money for disaster relief in the tsunami-hit areas in Southeast Asia in the mock-up building of SOHO Shang Du on January 4, 2005. In the meantime, the photo exhibition of the devastated areas was opened there.
The photos showed scenes of the areas both before and after the hit by the tsunami. Everybody there was struck by the sight. Beside staffs of both SOHO China and Modern Media, some journalists, artists, celebrities, and even passers-by participated in the donation. Ms. Zhang Xin, Co-CEO of SOHO China and Mr. Pan Shiyi, Chairman and Co-CEO of SOHO China, donated one million yuan on behalf of SOHO China to Beijing Red Cross Society in aid of the tsunami disaster fund, and SOHO China has also set up an account of disaster relief fund in Beijing Red Cross Society. "December 26, 2004, is a day of disaster mourned by everybody on the earth", said Mr. Pan, "we should try our best to help those victims of the tsunami disaster and our villagers in the village of the earth." Modern Media donated 100,000 yuan. By 4:00 pm, the total donation reached about 1.4 million yuan.
Ms. Han Lu, vice Chairman of Beijing Red Cross Society, was touched by the event and said that the donation from SOHO China has been the largest amount money received by Beijing Red Cross so far. She called for more companies to offer their aids to the tsunami-struck areas.
