On 7th March, 2005, the Ceremony of Starting Shipping Relief Materials to Tsunami-hit Countries by China was held at Wuzhou Container Wharf in Tianjin Port. More than 50 people attended this ceremony, including leaders from Ministry of Commerce, the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, Ministry of Communications, the Red Cross, State Commodity Inspection Bureau, Tianjin Municipal Government, Tianjin Port Authority, China State Construction Engineering Corporation and CSCL as well as people from all fields.
On last 26th December, a serious earthquake took place and resulted in the tsunami in north Sumatra, Indonesia. The tsunami spread to a few countries in South Asia and Southeast Asia and caused heavy losses of people s lives and properties. As soon as the tsunami took place, our government showed the great international humanitarian spirits, and provided great free assistance to these countries. To ensure the timely delivery of relief materials to disaster countries, major state enterprise fully played their roles. China Construction Engineering Corporation overcame big difficulties, worked overtime and finished the preparation work for relief materials. CSCL quickly drew and dispatched CSCL XIAMEN, the container ship, to participate the delivery task. It delivered the active board houses to Indonesia for China to assist its reconstruction of 60 schools. There are altogether 535 TEUs and nearly 7,000 tons. These relief materials are expected to reach Klang, Malaysia and then reach the destination, Palauan, Indonesia on 18th March through the branch container shipping network created in Southeast Asia by CSCL.
CSCL is one of the extra-large state-owned shipping enterprises in China. At present, its container shipping ability has stridden into the Top 10 Global Lines. CSCL has the largest 8500TEU container ships in the world and its shipping network has been spread to every major coastal and inland city in China as well as every major port in the world.
It s the first company for CSCL to dispatch its ship to deliver relief materials to disaster-hit countries on behalf China.
