Activities to commemorate the 220-year anniversary of the Anhui Opera entering into Beijing have been launched in Beijing Huguang Guild Hall.
In the fifty-fifth year of Emperor Qianlong s reign in Qing dynasty, four major Anhui troupes came to Beijing for the first time, and performed for the royal members. They, since then, settled in the southern part of Beijing (xuannan area). This Anhui opera brought a spiritual feast to the royal family and ordinary people in Beijing. Over time, the Chinese opera artists had given innovation and development to Anhui opera, and gradually formed today's national essence - Peking Opera.
During the event, the organizers will invite contemporary painting and calligraphy artists, Peking opera successor and people from all walks of life to reproduce the glory of the Pear Garden through calligraphy, paintings, films and other art forms. The National Peking Opera Theater, Beijing Opera Theater, North kunqu Opera Theater and Mei Lanfang Grand Theatre will stage a series of performances for the commemoration of 220-year anniversary of Anhui opera entering into Beijing.
