An event named For Better Tomorrow Review and Outlook at 1st Anniversary of Reconstruction at Beichuan Middle School , which was sponsored jointly by the Chinese People s Political Consultative Committee s Education, Science, Culture and Sports Office, the Planning Department of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Civil Affairs National Disaster Relief Office, the Next Generation Working Committee, the China Charity Federation, the Central Youth League s China Youth Social Service Center, the Beijing Municipal Education Works Committee, and Capital Normal University (CNU), Sichuan Education Department and the Beichuan Middle School, was held at CNU s music college on May 8 morning.
Gu Xiulian, a former vice chairwoman with the National People's Congress and the director of Next Generation Working Committee, Zhang Daocheng, a deputy general-secretary with the CPPCC National Committee, the Deputy Secretary-General of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office in the CPPCC National Committee, and a vice chairman of China Charity Federation, Liu Jian, an executive vice secretary-general of Beijing Municipal Education Works Committee, Liu Yachun, the Beichuan Middle School schoolmaster, Zhang Xue, the CNU party secretary, Liu Xincheng, the CNU the President, as well as college and department leaders, teachers and students attended the event.
A delegation of teachers from the Beichuan Middle School, a wheel-chair guitar band and 19 students from music and dance programs performed at the event.
Since the outbreak of May 12 devastating earthquake, CNU teachers and students have never stopped worrying about the earthquake-hit areas and the people who lived there, especially students. In the last year, CNU has fulfilled its commitment by taking real actions and has carried out many joint programs with the Beichuan Middle School by supporting its post-disaster reconstruction, providing psychological support to its teachers and students, establishing music classes and carrying out teacher training programs.
Zhang Xue reiterated in his speech that CNU will continue to support the reconstruction at the Beichuan Middle School and to rebuild a homeland together.
