On the morning of June 27, SCUT 2009 Graduation Ceremony was held at the Sports & Recreation Center of North Campus and South Campus Gymnasium successively.
On the ceremony, President LI Yuanyuan extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the graduates upon their full completion of the studies and praised highly of their outstanding performance. In his charge to the graduates, the President reminded the students that they belonged to a special generation who bore the glorious historical mission. He hoped that SCUT graduates should take their responsibility and make contributions to the country and its people.
SCUT Chairman WANG Yingjun awarded the honorary certificates and souvenirs to 122 graduates who volunteered to work in the impoverished and under-developed regions of west China. Among them, 22 participated in the Plan of University Students Volunteering to Serve the West.
The Class of 2009 includes over 5,300 undergraduates, 2,900 postgraduates, and 11 overseas students from 10 countries. Among them, 473 have won different science and technology prizes at the provincial level or above, and 169 in cultural and sports activities.
Vice president ZHANG Zhengang presided the ceremony. The teacher and student representatives expressed their teaching and studying sentiments respectively. The parent representative also extended best wishes to the graduates on behalf of nearly ten thousand families.
