The preliminary contest of Creativity in Youth---College EXPO Debate Contest of the Two Shores and Four Regions was held in SCUT on May 29 and 30. After group competitions, both SCUT and Xiamen University, as top team in their own group, enter final in Guangzhou. They were to compete for the championship in Guangzhou on June 8.
During the two-day contest, the SCUT team had a fierce debate with Nanchang University on Which is the key factor that limits the city development: Money or Mind? and with Guilin University of Electronic Technology on Which should we take as the major development mode for cities at present: Modern industry or modern service? From their own viewpoints, the four debaters of SCUT gave the audience an excellent presentation and refuted their rivals sharply, which reflected the youthfulness and the mainstream of students value orientation in SCUT.
It was learned that the debate contest was hosted by Shanghai Bureau of EXPO Affairs Coordination and CETV. As an organizer in Guangzhou, SCUT had done a lot of preparations and security work for this contest, thus ensuring the well-going of preliminary contest and winning unanimously appreciation by many contestant teams.
