JNU Holds Welcome-New-Arrivals Working Meeting
The university held a welcome-new-arrivals working meeting on September 11th. Vice-president Jia Yimin chaired the meeting. Present on the meeting included heads of related departments and leaders from all colleges and schools.
Mr. Jia pointed out that the improvement of the recruited students quality was the symbol of the progress of teaching quality of JNU. The work for welcoming new arrivals this year was more arduous for the increasing numbers of students. With such good quality of students, it was very important to do well in the work, so Mr. Jia proposed several requirements for the work. Mr. Jia also emphasized on the freshmen entrance education.
For the undergraduate recruitment, more than 5,000 students from abroad, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan had applied for our university this year and 2,662 were matriculated. The number of applicants is highest on record since JNU's rerunning in 1978. The foreign students were from 52 countries. The quality of mainland was improved, with 4 Number One students in single subject in national college entrance examination. The recruitment proportion in Guangdong was 2.4 : 1. For the postgraduate, there were 8,692 entering students, 2,284 recruited with 1,970 in mainland and 314 from 13 countries.
The Students Department had an all-round schedule for welcoming new arrivals for the relative departments.
