The New Teaching Building to be Operational on October 15th
Along with the approach of the Undergraduate Teaching Assessment of Education Ministry to be conducted in our university, the new teaching building, which is a new hallmark of our university, has gradually attracted more and more attention. Its inauguration, the facilities available etc have been the concerns of faculties and students. Mr. Ye Qin, who is in charge of the university s general affairs and infrastructure construction, has been given an interview on the concerned problems.
According to Mr. Ye Qin, the new teaching building program is ratified by National Development and Reform Committee. Owing to the constant effort of all related sectors, the new teaching building has been made perfect with each passing day and will be formally put into use on Oct 15th. Since December 2005 when this program was started, said Mr. Ye, the university has made many studies and improvements to the program together with the design and construction units and has overcome many difficulties such as complicated geological circumstance, price rising in building materials, unrealistic weather and the long period of fund dispatching etc. Also, the related sectors, such as the Department of Teaching Affairs, Logistic Group, Network & Educational Technology Center, Security Department etc have been supportive and cooperative after the completion of the main structure, and now the strong and weak electric engineering as the power supply, air-condition, lighting, network, supervision and so on, the debugging and installation of multi-medium, the installation of multi-function platform and blackboard, indoor cleaning as well as other necessary work has been basically finished. In the just over undergraduate teaching pre-assessment, the experts group had an on-the-spot investigation to the new teaching building and were affirmative its role and function. If situation allows, according to Mr. Ye, the new teaching building will be formally put into use on Oct 15th as the university s gift to the 17th national congress, National Day and the forthcoming undergraduate teaching assessment of Education Ministry.
The teaching building appearance looks like a big cooking vessel which well embodies the profound Chinese culture. The towering main and auxiliary buildings together with its varied layers and bright colors expresses a combination of softness and hardness and the profoundness of the university, becomes a very striking hallmark. Also, the total floor area of the 16-storey teaching building, 15 stories above the ground and 1 under the ground is 31,463 square meters. The building offers more than 160 classrooms --- with each can accommodate 30 to 300 students --- including 110 multi-medium classrooms, 18 language labs as well as mapping classroom, discussing classroom and sketching classroom .The building can accommodate 12000 students at a time and make the average seat up to 1.13 per student. It is equipped with complete central air-conditions and 6 large-scale elevators and has 13 entrances. The new teaching building will not only greatly improve the house-using condition of teaching and scientific research in our school, supplying better teaching facilities, added Mr. Ye.
