JNU Forum of Teaching Methods & Philosophy is Held
The JNU Forum of Teaching Methods was held on 20th September. Mr. Jiang Shuzhuo, vice president of our university delivered a lecture on the forum. He defined the philosophy of education of Jinan University as: student-oriented, competency-based, open to the world, and being committed to society, among which, student is the core of college education and the unique characters of the students it turns out is the core competence a college. Also, Competency-based instruction, namely, individual differences of students are considered and embodied in instruction, is essential to the quality of higher education and is beneficial to the development of the students. Still, as a university for overseas Chinese, the task of our university is not constraint to introduce the Chinese culture to the younger generation but to the world. Mr. Jiang laid the stress of his lecture especially on the notion of the JNU commitment to society . In his opinion, a university should be sensitive to the need of society and at the same time remain its own integrity. Also, Mr. Jiang expounded the practice of Jinan Spirit in the undergraduate education of our university: first, Jinan Spirit should become the dynamics of the staff and faculties in all aspects of their work; secondly, Jinan Spirit should be safeguarded and reflected in the rules and regulations of the university; thirdly, Jinan Spirit should also be strengthened by promoting better interaction between faculties and students and by creating unique student activities and cultures.
Professor Yuan Zuwang, Professor Zhang Yaohui etc and student representative Zhao Peiqin also delivered lectures on the forum.
