Dr. Efim Isaakovich Zelmanov from University of California, San Diego, the United States, came to visit SCNU. He came to attend the Algebra Worshop, co-chaired by professor Bokut from Russia. He also met the master and doctoral students from the School of Mathematics,SCNU several times to discuss the mathematical problems and acted as the Chairman at the Defense of the Doctoral students Dissertation.
Dr. Zelmanov is a mathematician,known for his work on combinatorial problems in nonassociative algebra and group theory, including his solution of the restricted burnside problem. He was awarded a Fields Medal at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Zurich in 1994, the highest honour in the mathematics field.
