Professor Lars Olof Bj rn came to work at SCNU

Professor Lars Olof Bj rn came to work as a guest professor at South China Normal University. Prof. Bj rn is a professor emeritus at Lund University and has earned several prizes for popularizing science, as well as a Linnaeus prize for botany and a Rimington prize for photobiology. He is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and was on the board of the International Photobiology Association for twelve years.

Dr. Li Ming, president for SCNU, met Prof. Bj rn and his wife and thanked him for working at SCNU. Dr. Liu promised that the university will provide all convenience and the necessary facilities to Prof. Bj rn s team for their research at our university.

With the rapid economic development in Guangdong in Southern China, we are facing a very serious challenge from the environment, the worsening ecological environment is threatening the health of the our human beings. The global climate changes, including Ozone Depletion and Effects of Ultraviolet-B (UV-B) Radiation and the greenhous effect have exerted very negtive impacts on the human beings, animals and plants and the whole ecological system.

With the UN Climate Summit held at Copenhagen, the research on the global climate change has again become the focus of concern in the international community and China. Prof. Bj rn s research is of great scientific and social significance.

As a member in the Guangdong Provincial Leading Scientist Project, It is a great breakthrough for us to have Prof. Bj rn , it is a milestone in the history of our university s internationalization. Prof. Bj rn said that he was glad to work at SCNU and he will do his best to contribute to the social development and environmental protection in Guangdong province.
