Pakistan: Knitwear industry in positive growth trajectory

Knitwear (hosiery) industry plays a vital role in value addition of the textile sector. Pakistan is a big exporter of knitwear. Of the 17 million tons of knitted textiles manufactured globally, apparels constitutes one third of the production.
Industry analysts predict the market to grow further by 25% over the next ten years to reach 21 million tons. Current knitwear production of Pakistan is 1.1 billion pieces.
60% comprises jersey, knitted fabric, T-shirts, sweat shirts, polo shirts, jogging suits, track suits and children outer wear. Combed cotton yarn between 10 and 20/s count are popular for manufacturing knitted hosiery fabrics.
Sudden electricity failure and old mechanical process are main problems being faced by the industry. Despite these problems, Pakistan's hosiery knitwear industry is still giving an average 50% increase in growth rate per year.
