Elders Primary Wool is contemplating putting in place a comprehensive technology which will help the customer know that a carpet has been produced from New Zealand wool. This is expected to help and ensure better returns to the local wool industry.
Elders Primary Wool offers many benefits to wool producers like innovative and back-to-back wool marketing, independent status and open market approach, proven end-market integration for all wool types and many other advantages.
Elders has negotiated a world-wide exclusive deal and will invest in a traceability technology to track the origins of wool used in carpets, which has been developed by AgResearch’s textile department in Lincoln.
This is expected to help customers verify the original destination of wool since many carpet manufacturers hive off carpets, mentioning as made from New Zealand wool. This has the potential to add value to New Zealand wool.
