Seasonally adjusted exports decreased by 1% in June relative to May 2007 and imports decreased by 2%. Relative to April 2007, exports in May decreased by 3% while imports increased by 4%.
On an unadjusted basis, the value of exports in May 2007 was €7,467m, down 4% on May 2006, while the value of imports was €5,127m, up 3%.
The value of exports in April 2007 was €7,516m up 15% on April 2006, while the value of imports was €4,785m, up 3%. The January-May figures for 2007 when compared with those of 2006 (see Tables 3-4) show that:
Exports increased from €35,764m to €37,859m (+6%):
• Organic chemicals increased from €6,787m to €9,011m (+33%), Beverages from €373m to €485m (+30%), General industrial machinery from €481m to €604m (+26%) and Metalliferous ores from €381m to €480m (+26%).
Power generating machinery decreased from €254m to €213m (-16%), Medical and pharmaceutical products from €6,751m to €6,194m (-8%).
• Goods to Switzerland increased from €970m to €1,502m (+55%), to Great Britain from €5,370m to €5,951m (+11%), to China and Hong Kong from €530m to €735m (+39%), to the Philippines from €172m to €415m (+141%) and to the United States from €6,798m to €7,247m (+7%).
Goods to Malaysia decreased from €312m to €207m (-34%), to Italy from €1,710m to €1,337m (-22%) and to Japan from €842m to €783m (-7%).
Imports increased from €25,132m to €26,417m (+5%):
• Other transport equipment (including aviation equipment) increased from €477m to €1,406m (+195%).
• Goods from the United States increased from €2,889m to €3,603m (+25%), Germany from €2,125m to €2,399m (+13%), China and Hong Kong from €1,840m to €1,949m (+6%) and Great Britain from €7,177m to €7,645m (+7%).
Goods from Singapore decreased from €601m to €358m (-40%), Norway from €831m to €575m (-31%) and Japan from €839m to €737m (-12%).
