Don & Low, located in Forfar, Scotland, whose Research and Development programmes are continually providing alternative fabrics to an extensive range of markets.
Currently, the company is developing a new bullet-proof textile which can also help making car parts easier to recycle, with an investment of around £144,000.
The fabric is made from layers of woven strips, which are fused at the edges, to make it extremely strong and light. The self-reinforced polypropylene is expected to boost Don & Low sales by £2 million annually.
This material can be used to replace glass fibre in car bumpers, as glass fibre cannot be recycled, where as this new material can. The fabric can prove its usefulness in the Army, aircraft and vehicle manufacturing sectors.
