The absence of special facilities like a convention centre, design studio, truck terminal, common testing laboratory, dispensary, canteen and crèche have prevented landowners from setting up their units at the SIPCOT apparel park, Irungattukottai.
Reliable sources told Fibre2fashion that of the 35 stakeholders that have been allotted lands, only five have started production. He further added that another three are under implementation while the remaining 27 have not made any move to start work on their lands.
Though SIPCOT, which stands for State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu, has sent notices to the rebellion companies and have convened a meeting of the stakeholders on September 8, the source told Fibre2fashion that the landowners are giving lame excuses for not heeding to SIPCOT's plea.
Though the Union Government and SIPCOT have together pumped in Rs 20 crore in the park, which is spread over 124 acres, the problem still persists. Unless the said facilities are provided, there is little to break the deadlock.
