An SEZ totally dedicated to cotton (Shankar 6 variety), famous in Gujarat, is coming up within a span of six months near Ahmedabad.
Two entrepreneurs from Gujarat have taken up the unique task of branding the famous Gujarat variety of cotton — Shankar 6.
In a personal interview, Pavan Agarwal, MD, and Naimish Ravani, Marketing Director, of PR Tradelink Pvt Ltd informed Fibre2fashion today that a 1,000-acre cotton SEZ, comprising value-add constituents of the textile chain, is being set up shortly.
"We have tied up with about 10-15 ginning and 20 spinning companies from India and abroad to exclusively process Shankar 6 cotton and that will be consumed by the end users who will also be the part of the cotton SEZ," Agarwal said.
Shankar 6 is a premium cotton variety from Gujarat and Messers Agarwal and Ravani informed that the cotton SEZ will be set up in a very ideal location i.e. in the proximity of Kadi, Surendranagar, Viramgam and near to Ahmedabad with strategic and logistical benefits for its SEZ members.
They informed that a pharmaceutical SEZ near Umbargaon in Valsad district of South Gujarat is expected to come up within a couple of years at an anticipated investment worth Rs11,650 crores. They further said that the finance for the entire cotton SEZ has been firmed up from global investors, particularly from Europe, Canada and Turkey.
This is a unique effort to integrate the dedicated efforts of cotton farmers in Gujarat, affording them the right prices with the textile chain coming up under one umbrella.
