Thursday , 15 Jul 2010 -South Africa's MDM Engineering Group has been awarded the engineering work for a plant upgrade for Andalucita S.A.'s andalusite processing project at Paita in northwest Peru. Andalucita already operates a South African-designed 40 t/h dense media separation plant on the site.
The local engineering group, HAUG S.A., will be utilizing the services of MDM to perform the key process engineering functions, and the mechanical design for this brownfields project
The first new DMS plant to be installed under the contract will have the capacity to run at 20t/h, while the second plant will double the plant's capacity. This upgrade will not only improve the product quality but will also minimize excessive wear & tear to the current plant. The upgrade will include a degritting plant.
South Africa is one of the few other countries where high quality andalusite is mined and processed, hence the involvement of the South African headquartered engineering group. The original plant at Paita was designed and constructed in South Africa before being shipped to Peru.
Commenting on the contract award, George Bennett, MDM Executive Director said: "MDM have a long-standing relationship with Andalucita S.A. and extensive experience in andalusite, for this reason we look forward to taking this project to the next level."
