Nov. 9, 2010 - World Minerals announced it will increase diatomaceous earth and perlite prices for its European Activities, effective January 1, 2011, or as current price agreements expire. European produced diatomaceous earth product prices will increase 4-8%; U.S.- and Mexican-produced diatomaceous earth product prices will go up 6-12%; and perlite-based product prices will increase 2-6%.
This year, world minerals have seen significant increases in energy, chemicals, packaging and transportation costs; along with a shift in the global demand for the products due to the economic situation in 2009, significant changes in costs have been made. In order to ensure sustainability of supply, the company reports that it is necessary to pass on these costs. Exchange rate impacts have, in turn, made this increase more significant for imported products.
