Dec. 21, 2010 - Martin Marietta Magnesia Specialties LLC is planning on expanding their facility on Lime Road by adding a sixth lime kiln.
The project is estimated at $53 million, which the company is funding.
Anne Lloyd, executive vice president and chief financial officer with the company, said they are still awaiting the company's board of approval.
A kiln takes the limestone out of the ground and turns it into dolomitic lime.
"This is great for the western part of Sandusky County," said Kay Reiter, executive director of the Sandusky County Economic Development Corp.
Lloyd said the company has a title five air permit that allows for a new kiln, and it will produce 275,000 tons of lime a year.
This project includes the construction of a newly owned and operated 15,000-square-foot building.
"We expect (board) approval in the first quarter of the year, and construction would start when the weather is warmer," Lloyd said, noting it would take two years to build.
She said they anticipate adding 15 permanent jobs and about 150 construction jobs to build the kiln. About 160 jobs will be retained.
It's reported that the company has been awarded a 35 percent job creation tax credit for a five-year term as a result of the company's expansion.
The value of the tax credit is estimated at $236,015 over the term, and the company would be required to maintain operations at the project site for eight years.
Martin Marietta Magnesia Specialties produces magnesia-based chemicals for industrial, environmental and agricultural uses, as well as fiber-reinforced composite materials used for transportation and military applications.
