From Jan. 12 to 14, China-UK-Africa Agricultural Cooperation Meeting was held in Beijing and 50 representatives attended the event. The meeting was co-sponsored by Ministry of Agriculture and UK Department of International Development, aimed at discussing approaches of tripartite cooperation so as to help African countries to improve agricultural production abilities and face the challenge of global food security.
Niu Dun, Vice Minister of Agriculture, Joseph Sam Sesay, Sierra Leonean Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security, and Richard Mkandawire, Head of CAADP of New Partnership for Africa's Development delivered speeches. Christopher Whitty, Chief Scientist of UK Department of International Development attended the meeting and delivered a keynote speech on global food security.
At the meeting, representatives exchanged information. African agricultural research forum introduced the situation of African agricultural and fishery development. Sierra Leonean Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security and Ministry of Fisheries and Oceanic Resources introduced the development of agriculture and fisheries. Ministry of Agriculture, PRC made a briefing on the policies and experiences in Chinese agricultural and fishery development, as well as China-Africa agricultural cooperation and the south-south cooperation in the framework of FAO. UK Department of International Development introduced the regional cooperation on agriculture and food safety between UK and Africa and fishery cooperation between UK and Africa. Representatives reached consensus on principles, approaches, and priorities of tripartite cooperation. Minutes of meeting were also passed at the meeting.
