As in many other parts of the world, in recent years Taiwanese consumers have become more conscious of the food that they eat. They are no longer content with regular produce at local markets, but instead are seeking out foods clearly labeled as organic.
The nation s farmers, in turn, are trying to meet and fulfill this new demand for organic foods. But there is still a large gap between the practices of the farmer and the expectations of the consumer.
To help bridge this gap, several consumer groups and non-government organizations have sprouted up of late. These groups and NGOs could end up helping revolutionize the ways that farmers relate to consumers.
