Visitors to the Chinese Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo are all surprised by the exhibition of Land of Hope at the 49-meter floor in the pavilion. Rice displayed at the exhibition have already been undergoing heading stage, while the farms around Shanghai are even too early for transplanting rice seedlings. What the modern agricultural technology can achieve is indeed worth applauding.

The task team responsible for the cultivation and display of rice in the Chinese Pavilion has worked on the basis of the conditions in the pavilion and established a set of process to cultivate, transport, substitute and maintain rice for the exhibition. Every batch of rice can be on display between seven and ten days, meeting the need of the exhibition at the pavilion.

During the interim report of the Live Rice Exhibition Display Project on May 6, Academician Lin Hongxuan from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, an expert of rice, acknowledged that the project had made breakthroughs in addressing a world challenge and made phased accomplishment. So far, 16 batches of rice have been cultivated for display. The batches for recent exhibition, already completing test and preliminary exhibition, have all met the requirement for growth and development, with 600 kg output for every mu of land in theory. The first batch for official exhibition was transported to the pavilion on April 28 in good situation. The display has shown the required effects by now.
