On Tuesday the 18th of May an historical protocol was signed in Beijing between Belgium and the People s Republic of China. The protocol gives official acceptance for the export of pears from Belgium to China. The treaty was signed in the presence of Michel Gerebtzoff (Agricultural attach , Belgian Embassy, Beijing) and Marc Evrard (BFV Asia Manager) by Didier Vanderhasselt (Counsellor-Deputy Chief of Mission, Beijing Embassy) on the Belgian side and Huang Guansheng (Director General of AQSIQ (Chinese food agency) assisted by Wang Yiyu (Director, Bio security Division, AQSIQ) on the Chinese side.

It is the first Belgian fruit or veg variety that is allowed to be exported to China
They are the first pears worldwide to be allowed to be imported to China
The protocol has been agreed in record time for such a dossier
This result was realized by the coordinated efforts of the BFV, the FAVV and Belgian diplomacy. It is expected that the first containers will leave for China at the start of the new pear season.
