May 25-the Symposium on Agricultural Cooperation Between China and Baltic States was held in Beijing. Vice Minister Niu Dun addressed the symposium.
This symposium was meant to promote information exchange between China, and Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and strengthen measures of agricultural cooperation. Mr. Ants Noot, Secretary General of the Estonian Ministry of Agriculture, led the Baltic delegation to the symposium. All parties introduced their own agricultural development, and exchanged opinions on sustainable development of agriculture, climate change, agro-product quality and safety, and food security. There was also an earnest discussion on agricultural cooperation between China and Baltic states, with the following consensus:
First, despite evident differences in territorial coverage, population and agricultural resources, the parties still enjoy common grounds, and are supplementary to each other with promising prospect in agricultural cooperation; second, person-to-person exchange should be enhanced; third, agricultural technological cooperation should be carried out for exchanges of germplasm resources; and fourth, economic and trade cooperation between China and the Baltic states should be strengthened.
