During June 9-10, the international conference on Chinese caterpillar fungus co-sponsored by the Grassland Supervision Center of Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and World Wide Fund for Nature was held in Qinghai. Gao Hongbin, Vice Minister of Agriculture attended and addressed the meeting.
Chinese caterpillar fungus is a rare species in areas of high altitude in the Qinghai-Tibet plateau, with unique effectiveness of fit-keeping.
Gao Hongbin said that China had already started research on resource distribution and environment, artificial breeding, and product development of Chinese caterpillar fungus; at the same time, China had been promoting the scientific management and exploration of this species through working out scientific collection plans, implementing the mechanism of collection permits, and strengthening monitoring and inspection. By so doing, China had promoted a coordinated social, economic, and ecological development of the producing areas and increased farmers and herdsmen s income.
A series of consensus has been reached at the conference. Representatives from different countries expressed their commitments on sustainable development of Chinese caterpillar fungus, safeguarding ecological environment in the Himalaya Mountains, promoting social and economic development of producing areas, and paying attention to broader environment issues.
