Apple production will rise 33% in the present harvest, a 17,000 ton harvest is predicted, according to a preliminary estimate for the 2010/11 harvest, made by the Agricultural and Live Stock Statistics Direction (DIEA).
The organisation confirmed that the rise will be registered in the bi-colour varieties - Cripps Pink, Fuji and Granny Smith. In the red apple's case, there is almost no change regarding the 2009/10 harvest.
According to PaisDigital.com, producers estimate a harvest around 5,800 tons of exporting apples, from which 80% would be from bi-colour varieties Fuji and Cripps Pink.
Regarding pears, a drop of 20% in the production comparing to the last harvest is expected. From the present harvest, it's expected that around 19% of the production will have the quality to be exported (around 2,800 tons).
As for peaches, a production very similar to the one of last year would be registered. In this cultivation, at the date of the survey 7,800 tons were harvested, approximately 36% of the total production.Peach production in the north area (something like 2000 tons) was already completely harvested.
