Between January and November of 2010, avocado exports reached US$ 83.2 million, 24% more than in the same period of 2009, when was US$ 66.8 million, according to information from the Exporters Association (ADEX).
According to Agricultural Manager of ADEX, Beatriz Tubino, this amount can improve this year, not only by the demand of the EU (mainly Holland, Spain and France), but also by the entry in the United States market.
He reminded that the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) from the US Agriculture Department already approved HASS avocado's access since 2010 and that PROHASS with SENASA/APHIS lead the investigation study that will demonstrate that that variety doesn't have the fruit fly, what allows its entrance in that market without a quarantine, as demanded presently by APHIS.
He added that Peruvian exporters sent some fruit to US, but with some apprehension about fruit's behaviour after cold quarantine.
The destination ranking, between January and November, was lead by Holland with US$ 38,1 million, 13% more than in 2009 and a participation of 46%. Followed by Spain with a 44% growth, France with 26% and the United Kingdom with 11%. In fifth place comes Canada (US$ 2,3 millions) followed by the US with US$ 762,891, a 451% growth by comparison with the same period of last year - US$ 138,000.
This will change the minute they can get inside US without a quarantine. The exporting company, Camposol, that have sent US$ 15,3 million, registering a growth of 41%, is followed by "Consorcio de Produtores de Fruta S.A. with US$13,8 million, AVO Peru S.A., Agroindustrias Solcace S.A.C., Sociedad Agr? acola Drokasa S.A. and Agroindustrias Verdeflor S.A.C., among others.
