The province tries to increase exports to Russia, Poland and the Czech Republic while consolidating European markets. The only problem is that the Ministry still hasn't signed a protocol with both countries for exports.
Citrus co-operatives in the province started the first contacts to open up a way to send Clementine to India and Thailand. The problem in moving forward regarding these exports is that the Spanish Government still has not made any protocol for exporting oranges and clementines to these countries. In January 2009, the then vice-president of the Government, Mara Teresa Fernndez de la Vega, already announced on a trip to India, the intention of the Executive to stimulate this commercial exchange agreement.
It's because of this that the president of the Castelln's fruit Exporters Association (ASOCIEX), Jorge Garca, demands to move forward in this, not without saying that, an importing company in Thailand that distributes through a market chain, made contact yesterday, with him to start commercial relations with the province. On his side, the secretary for ASOCIEX, Enrique Ribes, signalled at Fruit Logistica that contacts were also made to send the fruit to the the Bengala's gulf country.
Even if in the begining the exports are not in an important amount, the intention of this Asian countries is "to buy and try to have more imports", Garca highlighted.
On his side, the president of the citrus co-operatives from Castelln, Vincent Cans, expressed, in Berlin, his desire to start in the next campaign, the exports to China, something that should be followed by a commercial maritime line that shortens the 42 days that it takes today for a container from Castell? ?n to reach the Asian giant.
Consolidation
More than opening new markets, contacts in Berlin were mainly to keep raising the exports to European emerging countries, "like Russia, Poland or The Czech Republic", Garca affirmed.
Even so, the contact with the traditional markets of Germany, France, United Kingdom and the Netherlands (that absorb almost 80% of the exports from Castelln) is a fundamental work in the fair. As Cans said, he's "compelled to see his clients" in order to keep them.
