The Hass avocado variety is the most cultivated and consumed worldwide. The main destination is as fresh fruit. The pulp, of excellent quality, is firm, creamy colored, without fiber and with an oil content ranging from 18% to 23%.
This variety is usually calibrated by the number of fruits per carton for a weight of 4 kg (E.U.). Avocados of size 12 to 18 are the most in demand in the European market.
In the foothills of Tucumn are areas suitable for cultivation of avocado. Yields fluctuate greatly in the producing area of the NOA, especially with the Hass variety, but yields from 8 to 16 t/ha are obtained. In Tucum? ? n and Jujuy there are very good genetic quality nurseries. On this basis, LA GACETA Rural investigated the progress of the efforts to export to Chile.
Foreign Trade
Results since 2006 on international relations with Chile, then in Zicosur meetings, were successful. Tucuman Hass avocado now can be exported to that country, or via Chile to other countries, without the quarantine treatment of methyl bromide application, the Food Director of the province of Tucumn, Graciela Cerutti, told to LA GACETA Rural.
Cerutti concluded by saying that some producers were not aware of this issue, so it is important for them to be properly informed. "From this ministry, and through the Food Direction, we are looking for new markets in order to consolidate what we have achieved and to give a better added value to the products we send abroad", she said.
